TDP's tender process being followed: Congress

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC. 10. The Congress MLA, D.L. Ravindra Reddy, has said the Government followed the same Engineering - Procurement - Construction (EPC) system, item-wise tendering and pre-qualification followed during the TDP regime while awarding irrigation contracts.

Resuming the debate on irrigation tenders in the Assembly on Friday, Mr. Reddy said the TDP Government had introduced the EPC system for the Devadula, Tatipudi and Pushkaram irrigation projects. It was through the pre-qualification method that a single firm of contractors was selected for the Devadula project. Though the contractor was found to have misused Rs. 170 crores, the Congress Government decided to continue the firm so as not to interrupt the work.

Mr. Reddy said the High Court did not find the tender evaluation or the EPC system wrong. The court confirmed the commitment of the Government to ground projects.

He criticised the former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for raising objections to the projects. Mr. Naidu also objected to the EPC and item-wise tender systems being introduced although his Government followed them, he said.
