Show of strength by village servants

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC. 10. Thousands of village servants from all districts in the State took out an impressive rally here on Friday demanding redressal their long-pending demands.

The rally was taken out under the aegis of the Andhra Pradesh Village Servants Association from Indira Park to Baghlingampalli Park where a meeting was organised.

The association demanded enhancement of salary of village servants from Rs. 900 to Rs. 2,600 per month, promotions to those who had passed SSC and compensatory jobs for family members of the servants. They said these jobs were abolished by the Telugu Desam Government.

The Revenue Minister, Dharmana Prasada Rao, who participated in the meeting, was informed about a peculiar situation prevailing in Kurnool district, where village servants were paid six months salary though they had worked for the whole year. They urged the Minister to review GO 292 which made it mandatory for village servants to serve in the Revenue Department and gram panchayats also. He promised to consider their demands sympathetically.
