Tirunelveli
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUNELVELI, DEC. 10. The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Tirunelveli range) and Commissioner of Police (Tirunelveli city), K. Gopalakrishnan, has asked foreigners in Tirunelveli city to apply for Residential Permits and appear before the officials concerned for extension of their stay in India. In a statement, he said foreigners, who had arrived here with various types of visas, should register their names before the Foreigners Registration Officer of the district or city concerned for the issue of Residential Permits under clause 7 (1) of the Foreigners Order 1948 as and when they arrived in Tamil Nadu. If they needed any extension of their stay in India, they should appear before the Foreigners Registration Officer concerned well in advance so as to enable the Collectors to forward the same to the Government for the issue of necessary orders. "Overstaying in India without required extension is a clear violation of provisions of clause 7 (1) and clause 7 (2) of the Foreigners Order 1948 and such violation is punishable under Sec. 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946 with imprisonment extending up to five years and a fine," he said.
