Prepare to face challenges, Army Chief tells cadets

By C.K. Chandramohan

DEHRA DUN, DEC. 10. About 440 Gentlemen Cadets of the Indian Military Academy marched past the final steps of the famous Chetwode Square to become officers this morning.

Among those who graduated were 18 GCs from the Maldives, Bhutan, Mauritius, Malaysia and Nepal. The Reviewing Officer and Chief of the Army Staff, N.C. Vij, called upon the officers to begin preparing to handle all adverse situations, the challenges thrown up by rapid modernisation of military affairs and to be just to the men they command.

"You have chosen the noblest profession that enjoys the trust and respect of the nation. I am sure you will prove worthy of the trust placed in you and always try to defend the honour and prestige of the motherland," he said.

Gen. Vij gave away the Sword of Honour and Gold Medal for standing first in the overall order of merit in the Regular Course to Suresh D. Singh Dadhwal. The silver went to Aman Deep Chauhan and the bronze to Basant Sewada. The Technical Silver Medal for standing first in the Technical Graduates Course went to Sanjeev Shukla.
