`Double voting can help SCs'
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI,
DEC. 10.
The Puthiya Thamizhagam party plans to write to various political parties in the country to stress the need for proportional representation and double voting system for Scheduled Castes and Tribes. The party's aim is to create consensus on the issue and initiate changes in the electoral laws, according to the party president, K. Krishnasamy.
Addressing media persons here today, Dr. Krishnasamy said in the present system, SC/ST MPs and MLAs only served the interest of their parties. As a result, the condition of SC/STs continued to remain backward. Only in the double voting system, "real representatives" of the community would be elected to the legislatures who would work for the welfare of the community.
In this connection, the party would organise an awareness campaign from January 1 to June 30 throughout the State and would try to involve MPs and MLAs in the campaign.
