KOCHI, DEC. 10. It was an honour for the development works in the State that a group of 29 under-graduates in geography from the King's College, London, chose to do their project at Kumbalanghi. The team will head south to Kovalam after the two-day research on various aspects of women empowerment and civic developmental works in the `first model tourism village' of the nation. "We chose the State because of the excellent facilities we are offered here, including better connectivity and good translators and guides," said Glyn Williams, a lecturer. Dr. Williams and Kathleen M. Baker are the teachers heading the group. The team did eight projects at Kumbalanghi, Fort Kochi, Mattanchery and Ernakulam on employment generation, solid waste management, spice trade, people's use of space and tourism in Fort Kochi and Ernakulam. Many of the students were impressed by the Kudumbasree movement where women find a role of their own. In the U.K., there is no assistance from the community towards women empowerment, said Ms. Diana, a student.
