By Our Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM, DEC. 10. "Hyderabad will be benefited by a 10 GB (gigabyte) line while the other 23 district headquarters in the State will be connected by a 1 GB line each by the end of 2005," the advisor to the State Government on Information Technology, C.S. Rao, said here on Friday. Giving details on the proposed broadband connectivity to reporters, he said the project was in its advanced stage and a 50 MB dedicated line will connect over 23,000 villages. The cost of the project was estimated to be around Rs. 572 crores. "The basic idea is to make the entire State an info-highway and benefit the farming community to a large extent. Through this project we wish to address the issues of illiteracy, weather forecasting and soil testing apart from entertainment. Farmers can directly interact with policy planners and agriculturists free of cost from Internet kiosks to be installed in villages."
Project in 3 phases
On completion of the project, he said, it would be done in three phases. "In phase I we will be connecting all district headquarters by July 2005, in phase II around 1,165 mandals will be connected by December 2005 and in phase III all the panchayats by July 2006."
Attitude, key to jobs
Earlier, in his address as chief guest at the Induction Meet-2004, jointly organised by Avanthi Institute of Engineering and Technology and St. Theresa Institute of Engineering and Technology, he said: "The job market is very competitive and to compete in such a scenario one must not only develop managerial and technical capabilities but also take steps to increase the level of competence and acquire the right attitude."
PEOPLE formula
Mr. Rao advised students to concentrate on attitude building and communication skills and to follow the age-old traits of discipline. "The corporate sector believes in three basic principles -- competence, commitment and challenge. But according to me the PEOPLE formula is the best, adding that PEOPLE formula stood for -- Problem solving capability, Ethos, Open-mindedness, Perseverance, Leadership quality and Education. The Professor in AU Department of English, K. Nirupa Rani, said students of professional courses did not give much importance to English language and that was why they faltered in interviews.
