Around the City

Clear sky forecast

The sky will be mainly clear on Saturday, according to the weather forecast. The minimum temperature will be around 15 degrees Celsius.

On Friday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 28.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 16.5 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity was 47 per cent.

At the airport, the maximum temperature was 27 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 16.1 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity was 45 per cent.

Phones affected

Telephone services of over 99 individuals coming under Rajajinagar telephone exchange have been affected from Thursday because of cable breakdown. The affected areas are Sriramapuram, Bhashyamnagar, Arundhatinagar, Kalappa Block, Dayanandanagar, and Goutham Nagar, according to an official press release. BSNL said it was making efforts to restore the services.

Performance

The Southern Command Brass Band of the Indian Navy will perform at the Cubbon Park band stand on Saturday at 5.30 p.m. The band has earlier performed in Mauritius, South Africa, Seychelles and the UAE. The Mayor, R. Narayanaswamy, will be present.

Course

The Directorate of Vocational Education in Karnataka, in association with the Chennai-based Board of Apprenticeship Training, is conducting interviews for applicants interested in undergoing a one-year job-oriented training course in various subjects.

Interested persons who have passed the pre-university course can attend the interview at the Government Pre-university College at Peenya on December 15. Candidates need to report at the centre at 9.30 a.m. along with their degree certificates. Those selected will get a stipend during their apprenticeship.

Midday meal

Senior Citizen's Club (Union Government) is organising a `free midday meal' programme for elders of the Doddigunta slum on December 18 from 11 a.m. to noon on their office premises, Heerachand Road, Cox Town. For details, call 25488612
