BJP to go it alone in U.P.

LUCKNOW, DEC. 11. The BJP today said it will contest the next Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh alone as its past experiences of alliance in the State had not been fruitful.

``The party has learnt enough from its experience of forming coalition governments in the State and which was to some extent responsible for party's losses here,'' former BJP President Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.

``We formed the government with the BSP twice but could not benefit from it.... Instead we had to suffer losses to some extent,'' he said adding there was no question of having understanding with any of the parties in future and instead work at strenghtening the organsiation to provide a viable alternative.

To a question on post-poll alliance, Naidu said the people of the State were fed up of caste-based politics and the BJP would urge the electorate to give it clear majority so that it could serve the people earnestly.

Naidu, who is here to attend the inaugural session of the party's State committee, was critical of the love-hate relationship between the Congress and Samajwadi Party saying that they could come together any time on the excuse of fighting communalism.

Spelling out the strategy for strengthening the party in U.P., Naidu said the emphasis would be on continued contact between workers and leaders, regular interaction and agitation for the redressal of people's problems.

The former BJP president criticised the Uttar Pradesh government for having failed on the law and order front and ignoring development related issues and said it was the right time for the party workers to work towards gaining lost ground. - PTI
