MYSORE, DEC. 11. Australian women defeated Indian eves by 14 runs in the opening one-dayer of the seven-match series at the Infosys Ground here on Saturday. India, chasing 195, scored 181 for nine in 50 overs. It was a result that may have changed had the Indian eves built on opener Jaya Sharma's 58 and Mithali Raj's unbeaten 60, but with the trio of Hemalatha Kala, skipper Mamatha Maben and Amita Sharma succumbing in the 42nd and 43rd overs, Australia continued its stranglehold, registering its 14th victory from 15 matches against India.
