`Congress to strive for majority in U.P., Bihar'

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, DEC. 11. The Congress will strive to expand its base in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to obtain a majority of its own, the party general secretary, Janardhan Dwivedi, said here today.

``As a national party, we must strive towards that [objective]," he told The Hindu . The United Progressive Alliance, based on the last Lok Sabha election, would last the full term of five years, he said.

Admitting that there were difficulties in running a coalition government, he said these were being sorted out.

He said that ``human weaknesses,'' not ideology, were to blame for Congress factional wars. It had nothing to do with the issue of ideology.
