PONDICHERRY, DEC. 11. The car of the Sengazhuneer Amman temple at Veerampattinam in Ariankuppam near here will be renovated at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 lakhs. The Special Officer of the temple, C. Narayanasamy, told The Hindu today that the administration had also planned to repair the cars of the Tirukameswarar temple at Villianoor and the Moolanathar Swami temple at Bahoor. The Veerampattinam temple was more than 450 years old and its car dated back to the 17th century. The kumbabhishekam of the temple was held last year. The temple car measures 36 feet in height. Its conical crown at the top has been damaged because of wear and tear. The Government plans to constitute committees to work out the technical and other aspects of the restoration work.
