NALGONDA, DEC.11. The Majlis-Ittehadul-Muslimeen (MIM) is determined to expand its base to become a `third force' in the State by attracting Dalits and backward communities apart from Muslim minorities. Participating at a `meet-the-press' organised by the Nalgonda Press Club here on Saturday, the MIM leader, Asaduddin Owaisi, said: "There is enough scope for the MIM to become third force since people have a strong feeling that the Telugu Desam and Congress are representing two particular upper castes.'' Mr. Asaduddin, who was here to form the new MIM district unit, observed that people, especially Dalits and BCs, did not see his party as a communal one. Admitting that the party had not concentrated much to expand its base outside Hyderabad, he hoped that the party would improve its strength considerably in the next elections by overcoming the shortcomings. Blaming both the Congress and the TDP for neglecting the development of Telangana, the MIM MP said his party would take a right decision on Telangana issue at right time. To another question, he said a sense of relief was seen among the public with the downfall of the BJP-TDP combine. Mr. Asaduddin revealed that the MIM would file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court's objection to reservation for the Muslim minorities in the State. He asked the Government to strengthen the Andhra Pradesh Minorities Finance Corporation.
