GANDHINAGAR, DEC. 11. The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Kapil Sibal, is in favour of handing over all pending cases related to the Gujarat communal riots to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Mr. Sibal told mediapersons here that all such cases should be handed over to the CBI because the people of the State and the victims of the communal carnage had not yet received justice. Asked why the CBI issue was not pressed by his Congress party or others, he said the matter was already pending before the Supreme Court. He, however, made it amply clear that he was expressing his views neither as a Central Minister nor as a Congress leader but only as a lawyer. Mr. Sibal was speaking to the mediapersons on the sidelines of the first convocation of the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT) where he was the chief guest. The journalists and cameramen covering the event returned disappointed as the media was not allowed to approach Mukesh Ambani, president of the DAIICT, for a chat. More than the convocation, the event attracted the mediapersons for some comments from the elder Ambani on the reported tussle between the two brothers in one of the largest industrial houses in the country. But a tight security cordon was thrown around Mr. Ambani. While addressing the convocation, Mr. Ambani announced plans to set up two more DAIICTs in West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir. He made a detailed analysis of contributions of his father to the Indian economy.
