VISAKHAPATNAM, DEC. 11. The senior leader of the Telugu Desam Party and former Chairman of Visakhpatnam Urban Development Authority, Kovvuri Gangi Reddy, died at a private hospital in the city on Saturday. He was 79 and is survived by two sons and two daughters. Mr. Reddy was ailing from liver and breathing problems for the past few months. The funeral will take place on Sunday.
Naidu condoles death
The Telugu Desam president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, condoled the death of Gangi Reddy. In his message, Mr. Naidu termed his death as irreparable loss to the party. A condolence meeting was organised at the NTR Trust Bhavan today where the leaders recalled the services of Reddy. The departed leader had joined the TDP in 1984 and worked for 12 years as the party chief of Vishakapatnam unit. He was the VUDA Chairman for two terms and contested as TDP candidate from Vishakapatnam - II constituency in 1989. He was also the Director of APIDC, chairman of Vizag Port Trust Dock Labour Board. The former MP, M.V.V.S. Murthi, expressing grief said " He was like an elder brother to me." The VPT Chairman, K.R. Kishore, visited Gangi Reddy's residence and placed a wreath on the body. He conveyed his condolences and recalled the association of Mr. Reddy with the port in various capacities.
