By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC. 11. Three motorcycle-borne assailants robbed a scrap company worker of Rs. 3.8 lakhs in cash after hurling chilli powder and inflicting a knife injury on him near Puranapul late on Friday night.

Syed Mohd. Ghouse (22) of Proddutur in Cudapah district, was coming from Rama theatre to Puranapul on a bike along with a city-based scrap dealer, Moin (22), around 11.55 p.m. on Friday when they were intercepted by the attackers at Puranapul Bridge.

The incident

Even as Ghouse, who was pillion riding, wondered what the intruders were up to, one of them hurled chilli powder on his face.

Sensing trouble, Ghouse held the cash bag tightly to his chest when another assailant lunged at him with a knife and inflicted an injury on his hand.

"They overpowered Ghouse, snatched the cash bag and fled," the Bahadurpura Inspector, M. Rammohan Rao, said.

Ghouse works for a Proddatur-based scrap dealer and used to come to the city along with lorry loads of scrap and sell them to wholesale dealers.

He would collect the money from them and return to his employer.

On Friday, after collecting the money, Ghouse intended to return to Proddatur and asked his friend Moin to drop him at Puranapul when they were waylaid, police said.
