Aussie women in no mood to relax

By Our Sports Reporter

MYSORE, DEC. 12. Indian eves will battle for victory and pride in the second one-dayer against the Australian women at the Infosys Ground here on Monday. The 14-run loss against the visitors on Saturday has left Mamtha Maben's squad disappointed after letting the match slip from its grasp.

"We let the match slip. We didn't bat as well as we wanted. However, their fielding was so good and that also proved a critical difference between the two teams," Mamtha said. The runs scored by Jaya Sharma and Mithali Raj and the fact that the bowlers were able to restrict Australia below 200 indicated the host's strengths. The Aussie captain Belinda Clark is in no mood to relax after winning the first one-dayer, and that is bad news for India.

The pitch here promises runs and hopefully the Indian eves will raise their game and defy the recurring trend of losses against Australia.

The teams:

India: Mamta Maben (capt.), Mithali Raj (vice-capt.), Anju Jain, Anjum Chopra, Jaya Sharma, Hemalata Kala, Jhulan Goswami, Amita Sharma, Arundhita Kirkire, Varsha Reissel, Deepa Kulkarni, Neetu David, Nooshine-Al-Khader and Monica.

Coach: Sudha Shah; Manager: Trupti Bhattacharya; Administrative manager: Veena Paralkar.

Australia: Belinda Clark (capt.), Karen Rolton (vice-capt.), Alex Blackwell, Kate Blackwell, Leonie Coleman, Shelley Nitschke, Cathryn Fitzpatrick, Julie Hayes, Melanie Jones, Lisa Keightley, Clea Smith, Lisa Sthalekar and Emma Twining.

Coach: Stephen Jenkin; Assistant coach: Barry Neivandt.

Manager: Claire Connoly; Physios: Lisa Ross and Sally Bailey.
