Letters to the Editor
Sir, Subbulakshmi was a person who had unconditional bhakti towards the lord. Her eyes, mind and heart radiated only divinity. We grew up listening to music rendered by her matchless golden voice. She was, no doubt, the melody queen.
Rahul Atul Manthalkar,
* * * Sir, I grew up listening to the mellifluous strains of the Venkatesa Suprabhatam. I learnt the Vishnu Sahasranamam with her cassette playing in the background; I visualised Meera's devotion to Lord Krishna through the bhajans sung by M.S. As a child, I listened spellbound when I was taken to an M.S. concert at the Chembur Maidan in Mumbai. M.S.' greatest contribution was to bring the Carnatic music, bhajans and devotional songs to the common masses like me.
Suresh Srinivasan,
* * * Sir, The passing away of M.S. has created a vacuum that cannot be filled. Her melodious rendition of Bhaja Govindam and Annamacharya's songs are eternal.
B. Vijayasarathypriya,
* * * Sir, It is difficult to think of Carnatic music without M.S.
Jayashreee Ram,
* * * Sir, The rasikas will miss the divinity that glowed on her face but they will experience it in her songs. Be it Kurai onrum illai or Bhavayami Gopalabalam or Hari thum haro the bhajan that moved the Mahatma.
T.S. Gopal,
* * * Sir, It was not just the tune, timbre or quality of her voice it was the fact that she infused it with devotion and humility that captivated her listeners the world over. She may not be with us any more but her music endures.
H.R. Bapu Satyanrayana,
