BANGALORE, DEC. 12. G.S. Shivarudrappa, poet, on Sunday said the works of poet laureate Kuppalli Venkatappa Puttappa (Kuvempu) were not restricted to Karnataka alone. "Kuvempu's works surpass all regional barriers. We have so many writers who have featured Karnataka in their works, but Kuvempu's works depict the culture of Karnataka and also the entire country," he said. He was speaking at a function organised by Ella Kannada Abhimanigala Antarashtreeya Vedike (E-Kavi) to mark the birth centenary celebrations of Kuvempu at Ravindra Kalakshetra here. The former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, inaugurated the function and assured the organisation of all possible help in their efforts towards the growth of the language. Chandrashekar Kambar, MLC and noted writer, felicitated the Managing Director of State Bank of Mysore, B.N Ramaiah, and the president of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, T.A. Narayan Gowda, on behalf of the organisers. Prizes were given to the winners of various competitions conducted by E-Kavi as part of the birth centenary celebrations. L. Hanumanthaiah and Mukhyamantri Chandru, MLCs; and the former Chairman of the Legislative Council, B.L. Shankar, were present.
