HYDERABAD, DEC. 12. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will cover during the Rajiv Nagara Baata programme two municipalities in a district and inspect poor localities, as indicated in the Rapid Assessment and Feedback on Towns. The programme will be launched tentatively on New Year's Day in Rajendranagar Municipality. He will announce both long and short-term schemes and hand over their benefits (asset distribution) to beneficiaries. A review meeting after the field visit will follow. These decisions were taken by Dr. Reddy after he reviewed the programme with officials of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development and the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) at a meeting in the Secretariat on Sunday. An official release said the Chief Minister laid stress on comprehensive and rapid development of towns through the implementation of the programme. It was decided to convene a meeting of Collectors and Municipal Commissioners on December 28 and 29 here to discuss measures for effective implementation of the work plan and initiate follow-up action on the programme.
Areas' identification
The Collectors, in consultation with Commissioners, would identify localities, especially from among those that have high incidence of poverty and infrastructure deficiencies for the Chief Minister's visit. The petitions/grievances received by him would be submitted to the unit, through the Municipal Commissioner concerned, after proper numbering and recording. The Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration, S.R. Rao, told the meeting that ASCI had prepared the concept note on the programme. The release said a special programme management unit would be set up at the State and district level with technical support from the ASCI for assessment and independent analysis of the programme.
