ANNAMALAI NAGAR, DEC. 12. Annamalai University retained the title in the south zone inter-university men's hockey tournament defeating Bharathidasan by a solitary goal scored by Suresh Kumar in the 20th minute in the last match of the semifinal round robin league here on Sunday. Annamalai emerged winner with 7 points (2 wins and a draw) and Madras, which beat Bangalore in the other match 1-0, scored by Vijayakumar in the eighth minute, also retained the runner-up position with 6 points (2 wins and a loss). Bangalore finished third with 2 points (2 draws and a loss) while Bharathidasan finished last with only one point (one draw and two losses). However, all these four teams have qualified for the All-India inter-zone inter-university tournament to be held at Nagpur. L.B. Venkatrangan, Vice-Chancellor, Annamalai University, gave away the prizes.
