Girish's century in vain
HYDERABAD,
DEC. 12.
Girish Rao's century (123, 8x4) went in vain for Bangalore as it lost to Osmania by 32 runs in the semifinals of the South Zone inter-university cricket tournament here on Sunday.
Batting first, Osmania scored 253 for nine with S. Anoop Pai (63, 5x4, 1x6) being the top-scorer. In reply, Bangalore stayed on course as long as Girish was at the crease but a late-order collapse triggered by Anil Kumar (four for 43) saw the team miss the bus.
The scores (semifinals):
Osmania 253 for nine (T. Suman 41, S. Anoop Pai 63, Danny Dereck Prince 56) bt Bangalore 221 (Girish Rao 123, Anil Kumar four for 43).
Mysore 245 for eight (B. Arun Kumar 47) bt Madras 154 (Thalaivan Bargunam 40 not out).
