Ghadially takes honours

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, DEC. 12. It was an exciting finish in the Indian NKC of the MRF-MAI Formule Mondiale karting championship 2004 at the MRF's Danny's Karting complex here on Sunday.

Before the event, Ashok Jadav of Mumbai and Preetham Muniyappa of Bangalore were in contention for the overall championship with 32 and 26 points respectively in five rounds.

They needed a finish in any of the top three positions, but both had to go out of the track because of mechanical failure.

With the absence of Deepak Paul Chinnappa of Bangalore (27 points), the race was between Ashok and Preetham. First Ashok's machine failed and he was furious. But when he was arguing with the officials over the mechanical failure, Preetham's machine also failed.

And the 20-lap event was won by Abbas Ghadially of Mumbai, who warded off Fazal Khan's challenge.

As Ashok and Preetham stopped after the sixth lap, others began their fight and it was the most exciting finish. The Chennai racers had a tough time today. Even Tuhin Mehta, who won the 13-lap KCT title, faced a protest letter as he bumped into Sunny Bhagnani. The judges, after examining video footage, disqualified Sunny helping Tuhin to win the event.
