Uma Bharti for action against police officers

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, DEC. 12. The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharti, today asked the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, to take action against the police officers "who are leaking information" to a section of the media details of the investigation in the Sankararaman murder case in which the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, had been arrested.

At a public meeting organised here by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Ms. Bharti wondered how a section of the media could go on writing about the case. "If she [Ms. Jayalalithaa] has morality, let her suspend the police officers."

Describing Ms. Jayalalithaa as "power hungry," Ms. Bharti said: "Political leaders are vote-hungry. They can go down to any extent. What she is going to gain out of the arrest? Only time will tell."

The country has been facing a two-pronged attack, one on rishis (sages) and another on krishis (farmers).

She wanted people to remain united to face this challenge.
