NEW DELHI, DEC. 12. The Union Government has decided to modernise at least one blood bank in each district under the second phase of the National AIDS Control Programme in the country for providing safe and quality blood to the patients. According to an official statement, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has undertaken this ambitious project adhering to ethical norms especially in the light of growing incidents of fatal infections including HIV positive and Hepatitis-B and AIDS. Under the proposed modernisation scheme, a one time grant to the extent of Rs 1.25 lakh would be admissible for purchase of equipments for district-level blood banks besides an annual grant of Rs 2.03 lakh for the purchase of consumables and salary of one technician. -- UNI
