Tributes paid to Munje

NEW DELHI DEC. 12. Glowing tributes were paid to the great patriot and revolutionary leader, Bal Krishan Munje, on the occasion of his birth anniversary at a function here today.

The Deputy Mayor of Delhi, Ramesh Dutta, garlanded his statue at Paharganj Chowk. Bal Krishan Munje was strongly opposed to caste discrimination. His ideals of communal harmony and brotherhood are worth emulating today, Mr. Dutta said.

Eye camp inaugurated

NEW DELHI DEC. 12. The Delhi Finance Minister, A.K. Walia, today inaugurated a free eye camp at Vastalya Play House in Laxmi Nagar. The camp was organised by Tarun Mitra Parishad, a well-known social service organisation.

The president of the Mitra Parishad, Ashok Jain, said as many as 231 patients were checked and given medicines and spectacles. Of these, 31 patients were taken to the St. Stephen's Hospital for cataract operations.

Nothing impossible, says Kalam

NEW DELHI DEC. 12. Interacting with students of the ASN Senior Secondary School, the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, urged them to remove the word "impossible" from their dictionary. At a meeting with the students at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday, Dr. Kalam asked them about their ambitions in life. He asked the students to go to rural areas with their teachers for excursions and educate the illiterate folks. He also advised them to plant trees to protect the environment.

College festival ends

NEW DELHI DEC. 12: Symphony 2004, the 45th annual inter-college festival of Janki Devi Memoral College ended here this past weekend with a rock show by Joshiley & Tantrik. The three-day festival was a collage of activities and competitions including alpana, rangoli, mehndi, classical dances, antakshri, quiz, Sanskrit recitation, face painting competition, aerobics and fashion show. Eminent personalities such as Kathak exponent Monisa Nayak, Bharatnatyam dancer Vandana Srivathsan, designer Jatin Kochhar, TV and stage artist Gazala Amin and Zila Khan were among the judges for several of the contests.
