Mamata invited to `return home'

Ashoknagar, West Bengal, Dec 12. Veteran Congress leader and Union Water Resources Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi today invited Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and her partymen to return to his party.

Inaugurating a Congress workers' convention in the Town hall here in North 24 Parganas district, he said Ms Banerjee and her partymen should return to the Congress to fight against the Left Front in West Bengal. ``If necessary, we are ready to share the rear benches in the party to accommodate Ms Banerjee,'' Mr Dasmunshi said, observing that a united effort between the two parties could bring an end to the ``prolonged Left Front misrule in Bengal''. ``Congress cannot compromise with a party like the CPI(M) here in state politics and the rivalry between these parties will exist forever,'' the Union Minister said.

He, however, said the Congress had opted for the CPI(M)'s support to form the UPA Government at the Centre and also towards forming a national force to thwart the ``subversive'' and the ``fundamentalist'' forces. -- UNI
