`People disillusioned with Congress'

MANDI, DEC 12. The Himachal Pradesh BJP president, Suresh Bhardwaj, today claimed that the people of the state had been ``totally disillusioned'' with the ruling Congress for its ``misrule''.

He said the ruling Congress in the state had failed to implement even a single promise made in its election manifesto.

Mr Bhardwaj was here in connection with two-day session of the state executive committee meeting of the BJP which began here yesterday.

Addressing a news conference this evening, he said the Congress came to power during the last elections by raking up an imaginary and false issue of corruption.

``The Congress now itself is involved in corruption from head to foot,'' he said. ``Allotments of contracts, petrol pump sites, filling up of posts and other sops are being given either for consideration or to the persons connected with the ruling party,'' he said.

He alleged the developmental activities had come to a virtual halt in the state for want of funds. The Virbhadra Singh government had failed to get any economic package for the state as a result of which the state was on the brink of bankruptcy, he said.

Only centrally sponsored works were continuing at a snail's pace, he said.

Mr Bhardwaj said the Congress had promised employment to at least one member of each household in its manifesto. But it had failed to do so. Now people felt betrayed, he added.

Mr Bhardwaj said the rising prices, had made the life of a common man unbearable. The prices of the necessities had increased manifold. The rates of electricity, petrol, diesel and LPG have been enhanced twice.

Many households have stopped using LPG because of its exorbitant price and switched on to fuel-wood and this would damage the forest wealth, he added.

Referring to the deteriorating law and order in the state, Mr Bhardwaj said it so appeared that there was no government. The crime against women was increasing and the number of cases of burglary, theft and murder was rising.

He said things had come to such a mass that even a cabinet Minister had been involved in a land grab case and a session judge had to issue a warrant of arrest against the minister.

He demanded that the minister should resign on moral ground.

Replying to a question, he said in the event of mid-term elections, the BJP in the state and the NDA at the Centre would again come to power. He also said the BJP would celebrate its silver jubilee next year. -- UNI
