Scooterist dies in quarrel with gang

BANGALORE, DEC. 12. A four-member gang attacked two persons riding a scooter and murdered one of them on Bennigenahalli Bridge in K.R. Puram Police Station limits on Saturday night, the police said.

The police gave the name of the victim as Tirumalaraj (25) of Baiyappanahalli. Tirumalaraj's friend Ravi Shankar (28) of Laxmipura who was riding pillion was injured in the attack.

The police said the two went to R.T. Nagar to collect money from a financer. When the financer did not turn up, they went to a bar in Ulsoor. While they were riding the scooter at night, four persons, who followed them in an autorickshaw, abused them.

An enraged Tirumalaraj overtook the autorickshaw and blocked it on a bridge. The four people got down from the autorickshaw, and assaulted Tirumalaraj and Ravi. One of the assailants stabbed Tirumalaraj.

A few residents who saw Tirumalaraj and Ravi Shankar informed the police and shifted them to a hospital. Tirumalaraj died on the way to hospital.

Necklace stolen

A 60-year-old woman, Janaki Pandian, was robbed of her gold necklace worth Rs. 26,000 near her house in Cauvery Nagar in Devarajeevanahalli Police Station limits on Saturday. The incident occurred when she and her husband were walking, the police said.

Two arrested

The City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested two persons on charge of selling pirated video compact discs (VCDs) from two shops in Upparpet and S.J. Park Police Station limits.

They have recovered 303 videodiscs of Hindi films, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha and Lakeer.

The police gave the names of the accused as G.K. Nagesh (20) of Nagamangala and Veerappan (33) of Tyagarajanagar.

Bar workers arrested

The City Crime Branch police have arrested eight employees of a bar in Sankey Road on charges of selling liquor beyond the permitted time at night. They have recovered Rs. 5,100 in cash and some liquor bottles.

The police gave the names of the arrested as Nagaraju (33), Ashok (33), Pandurang (51), Sebastian (29), Suresh (28), Shivakumar (26), Anish (23) and Sadik (22).
