Foggy morning, clear later

NEW DELHI DEC. 12. A mist or fog laden morning will precede a generally clear day on Monday as per the weatherman's forecast for the Capital. Further, the morning will be chilly with the minimum temperature expected to hover around 8 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and the minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Sunday were 25.5 degrees Celsius and 9.6 degrees Celsius respectively. At Palam, the maximum temperature recorded was 24.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 10.4 degrees Celsius.

The maximum relative humidity recorded at Safdarjung and Palam was 93 and 97 per cent respectively, while the minimum humidity at the two places stood at 52 per cent and 54 per cent respectively.

Cops hailed for honesty

NEW DELHI DEC. 12. A retired Army Lieutenant-General, Vijay Lall, has commended the alertness and honesty shown by three Delhi police constables who returned his purse which he inadvertently dropped somewhere.

In a letter to the Police Commissioner, K.K. Paul, Lieutenant-General Lall said he was returning from G-Block on Church Road near Rashtrapati Bhavan when he somehow lost his purse, which contained cash, credit card, identity card and some other valuable documents.

When he reached home, his son informed him that his purse had been recovered and a police constable was waiting for him at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj roundabout to hand it back. The constable said he recovered the purse with the help of an Army Headquarters' employee. Lieutenant General Lall commended the honesty of constable Sunil Kumar of New Delhi district and constables Ravindra and Paramjit Singh, who are posted with the traffic police.

Man held with porn CDs

NEW DELHI DEC. 12. A 19-year-old man who was allegedly selling pornographic compact discs was arrested from near Red Fort in North Delhi on Saturday. In all, 15 such compact discs were recovered from his possession.

The accused, Zunaid Alam, revealed that he belonged to Kishanganj in Bihar and had been living here on the footpath of Lajpat Rai Market. The police are mounting raids at shops to recover more such pornographic compact discs. They are also trying to arrest the suppliers, most of whom operate from outside the Capital.
