KURUKSHETRA, DECEMBER 13. The Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala has called upon the people of India and Pakistan to further strengthen the spirit of brotherhood so that relations between both the countries could improve and there was a new era of prosperity in the region. Speaking while giving away Haryana Gaurav Awards to the personalities of the State, who had earned distinction in their respective fields, here late last evening, Chautala said that it was the need of the hour that the tempo of the peace initiatives taken by the people and Governments of both the countries should be further accelerated. He appreciated the efforts of Fakhar Zaman, Chairman of World Punjabi Congress in striving to bring peace among both the countries and promoting the Punjabi language in the world. He announced a grant of Rs.11 lakh to Zaman for the promotion of `Punjabiyat' in the world. The Chief Minister said that his Government had recently given the status of second language to Punjabi in the State so that the rich Punjabi culture could further be promoted in the region. He announced that this function would be organised every year to honour the renowned personalities in the State so that the younger generation could take inspiration from the life and deeds of such personalities. On the request of a Haryana Gaurav Awardee, Raghu Rai, a renowned photographer, who could not come to receive the award, Chautala said that the Government would make concerted efforts to provide all modern facilities in his village to make it a model village. The Chief Minister also announced a grant of Rs. 3 lakh for the artists of the visiting Pakistan delegation for the promotion of Punjabi culture. Speaking on the occasion, Zaman said that his delegation had brought the fragrance of love from Pakistan and said that the people of India had bestowed upon them abundance of love and amity, which would go a long way in further strengthening the mutual ties between both the countries. Chautala conferred `Haryana Gaurav Award' upon prominent personalities and outstanding Haryanvis. These included eminent classical vocalist Pt. Jasraj, famous actor-turned-politician Sunil Dutt (his son Sanjay Dutt received the award on his behalf), Chairman, Zee TV Subhash Chandra, actor Sanjay Dutt, Pt.Tule Ram, noted playwright Swadesh Deepak, internationally acclaimed photographer Raghu Rai, cinematographer Manmohan Singh, painter Roop Chand, music director J.P. Kaushik, only woman in the world to scale Mount Everest twice Santosh Yadav, theatre music director and actor Kamal Tiwari, comedian Daryao Singh Malik, actor and director Satish Kaushik, poets Jaimini Haryanvi and Alhar Bikaneri, playback singer Vinod Sehgal and film director Rakesh Nath. The two other prominent personalities included Major Abhijeet, an instructor at National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, who has scaled the Mount Everest and Naveen Gulia, a handicapped soldier of Indian Army, who had travelled on highest motorable road in the world. -- PTI
