MANGALORE, DEC. 13. The kalashabhisheka to a new silver chariot, built at a cost of Rs. 65 lakhs, was performed at Kadri Manjunatha Temple under the supervision of the Pejawar Mutt seer, Vishwesha Tirtha, here today. The puja began at the temple with a homa early in the morning. Later, shatarudrabhisheka and prasanna pooje were held. The handing over of the chariot to the presiding deity was completed late in the evening. At a function organised on the occasion, the former Chief Minister, M. Veerappa Moily; the Chairman and Managing Director of Karnataka Bank, Ananthakrishna; the former Chairman of Vijaya Bank, K. Sadananda Shetty; and the swamiji participated. The chief convener of Rajatha Ratha Nirmana Samithi, K. Anantharama Rao, said Canara Bank and Karnataka Bank have donated Rs. 3 lakhs and Rs. 1.5 lakhs, for the chariot.
