HYDERABAD, DEC. 13. The Congress party has asked the TDP withdraw its comments on the Jayati Ghosh commission on farmers' welfare. They alleged that the TDP had passed derogatory remarks on the commission without even studying its report. The Agriculture Minister, N. Raghuveera Reddy, and the Congress MLAs -- N. Manohar, T.Venkat Rao, Jalagam Venkat Rao, Marri Rajasekhar and Venkataramana -- told a news conference here on Monday that they had themselves not got copies of the commission's report submitted to the Government. The report was being analysed by various departments concerned where it had been forwarded. It would be submitted to the Cabinet later for finalising measures.
`Hasty move'
Under the circumstances, there was no chance of the TDP getting a copy of the report. But, the TDP went on to pass a judgement that it was against the previous Government. It showed to what level the TDP stooped down. They said there was no way that the details of the report could be divulged without the Cabinet examining it. Stating that the commission's report was not wishy-washy, they said it had stalwarts like M.S. Swaminathan, Utsa Patnaik and K. R. Venugopal apart from Ms. Ghosh who were authorities in their own fields.
