HYDERABAD, DEC. 13. The Speaker, K. R. Suresh Reddy, on Monday directed the Endowments Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, to enquire and report to the House, in the next three days, action taken against a temple official who had "insulted" a Telangana Rashtra Samiti member and Dalit, K. Nagesh. His direction came after Dr. Nagesh staged a sit-in on the steps of the Speaker's podium for some time, demanding the suspension of the Executive Officer of the Sri Narasimha Swamy temple at Yadagirigutta, for showing disrespect and violating the protocol. He withdrew the protest following the Chair's direction.
A delicate issue: MSR
Earlier, the members appeared dissatisfied when the Minister failed to give a firm assurance that action would be initiated against the official. The Minister said it was a tough and delicate task, as the Executive Officer was "a woman and belonged to same caste as Dr. Nagesh." There was laughter for some time but Telugu Desam members too insisted on action against the official. Raising the issue during zero hour, Dr. Nagesh said there was heavy rush at the "laddu" purchasing counter on the hilltop shrine on Sunday. He had sent a word for the Executive Officer to convey to her the inconvenience being caused to pilgrims. But the official behaved in a haughty manner refusing to come and meet him. Her response was the same when the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, Gowrishankar, pleaded with her to meet the MLA.
