KURNOOL, DEC. 13. The Doordarshan Maintenance Centre organised a live demonstration on Direct to Home (DTH) service at Samachar Bhavan in Collectorate complex here on Monday. The service will be formally launched by the Prime Minister on December 16. In a statement, the Station Engineer, P. Ranga Swamy, said 40 TV channels and 12 radio channels would be transmitted through the new system. The DTH signals would be received by using a small dish of 60 cm size and a set-top box. The TV users need not pay any monthly charges for the service. The AIR station director, P. Raja Rao said the DTH dish and set top boxes were available for a cost of Rs 3,100 with Khaleel electronics and Sri Priya electronics. He said the viewers in rural areas and urban areas would receive the same quality of transmission once DD was switched to the DTH mode. Also, the problem of shadow areas would become a thing of the past.
