CUDDAPAH, DEC. 13. Telugu Desam Party leaders have said the party is not trying to stall irrigation projects, but is questioning lack of transparency and the Government's payment of mobilisation advance to contractors even before finalising irrigation project tenders. At a press conference here today, the leaders -- M. Venkataswamy, L. Madhusudan Reddy, P. Krishnamurthy and K. Ramesh Babu -- rebutted the charge of Rayalaseema Parirakshana Committee (RPC) leaders -- Ch. Chandrasekhara Reddy and D. Chandramouleeswara Reddy -- and said Congressmen moved the court against project tenders, but not those of the TDP. Accusing Congress leaders of portraying the TDP in bad light on the issue, they urged the Government to make public the manner in which project tenders were finalised. Contending that the TDP was exposing corrupt practices in the tender deal, they urged the committee leaders to join hands to fight corruption. They urged the Government to be transparent in priority sectors. They decried the Parirakshana Committee's silence on the intemperate remarks made against farmers by the Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, and several Congress MPs and MLAs.
