Mixed day for Ernakulam

KOCHI, DEC. 13. Host and defending champion Ernakulam had mixed luck in the ninth State senior softball championship that ended at the Parade Ground, Fort Kochi, on Monday.

Ernakulam, champion in all the previous editions, maintained its impressive record in the women's section with a 11-1 victory over Thiruvananthapuram. But its men fumbled, losing tamely 1-6 to Kannur in the other final.

Ernakulam's Rathish Babu and Simi Varkey were adjudged the best players in the men's and women's sections respectively.

The results:

Men's final: Kannur bt Ernakulam 6-1. For third place: Malappuram bt Thiruvananthapuram 6-5.

Women's final: Ernakulam bt Thiruvananthapuram 11-1. For third place: Kannur bt Malappuram 25-13.
