Alleged criminals arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, DEC. 13. Five people allegedly involved in 25 cases of murder, attempt-to-murder, robbery and extortion in Delhi and Haryana were arrested from Najafgarh in South-West Delhi by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on Sunday. A Webley Scott revolver and three country-made pistols along with live cartridges and a stolen vehicle were allegedly recovered from their possession.

The Special Cell apparently had information that a dreaded criminal, Vijay Dahiya, and his accomplice, Anil, would come to Najafgarh in a black Scorpio to meet their accomplices. Acting on a specific tip-off, the police laid a trap on Najafgarh-Bijwsan Road and intercepted the vehicle being a fake Haryana number plate.

Subsequently, Vijay and Anil were overpowered and a firearm was recovered from them. Investigations revealed that the vehicle in which they were travelling had been stolen from Inderpuri.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that their three accomplices were waiting for them near Sai Baba Mandir at Najafgarh. At their instance, the police raided the place and arrested all the three, later identified as Ashok, Bijender Singh and Nanu Ram. Three country made pistols and six live cartridges were recovered from their possession. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), Ashok Chand, all the accused are from different parts of Haryana.

During interrogation, Vijay disclosed that he got initiated into the world of crime in 1996 and was involved in more than 16 criminal cases. His gang had recently committed to sensational crimes. Earlier this month, the gang members shot dead a lawyer and former president of Palwal Bar Association, Narvir, who was also the son of a former MLA from the area. They gunned down Narvir allegedly at the instance of Rati Ram, who was having a property dispute with him.

This July, Vijay along with his accomplices entered the house of his former accomplice, Ram Dhan, and shot dead his mother, Malho Devi, and his sister-in-law, Roshni Devi, to take revenge of the murder of his close accomplice, Kulbir.
