International conference on health in Kottayam

MADURAI, DEC.13. The Santhigiri Ashram, Tiruvananthapuram, has proposed to conduct an international conference on health, peace and spirituality from January 2 to 5 at Kottayam, Kerala, in connection with the dedication to the nation of the Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru Research Centre for Ayurveda and Siddha by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh.

Speaking to reporters here, Swami Navananmai Gnana Thapasvi, secretary of the Santhigiri Ayurveda and Siddha Vaidyasala, Kanyakumari, said the major thrust of the conference was to highlight the importance of a spiritual approach towards health and living.

They would synchronise the Ayurveda and Siddha systems of Indian medicines not only to treat various ailments but also point out the role of spiritual approach in them.

The focus of the conference would be to seek a new interpretation of the vitality of spiritual aspect of humanity, to understand the great role of spirituality as a moral shield and instrument of introspection and commitment to eternal values enshrined in the great Indian and other traditions, among other things.

The former President, K. R. Narayanan, gifted his ancestral property to establish the centre.
