VISAKHAPATNAM, DEC. 13. Anganwadi workers in the district organised a mammoth rally in the city on Monday demanding that the Government resolve their issues locally. This was in response to a State-wide call by the Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helphers Union, affiliated to the CITU. The participants, while welcoming the Government's announcement that it would provide job security and divest the mother's committees of their powers, and wage hike, noted that the hike was not commensurate with their work. The Congress party, during its election campaign, had promised extra wages for extra load of work, promotions to them as supervisors, and job security but had not implemented it properly, they said. Other important issues was the TA and DA and payment of rentals, failure to sanction increments, and allowances. The Ananwadi workers also complained of harassment by the officials and demanded immediate payment of wages, which were stopped.
