Power supply disruption

KOCHI, DEC. 13. Electricity supply at Poonithura, Gandhi Square, Jawahar Road, Vikram Sarabhai Road and Thamarassery will be disrupted between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday owing to repair works being undertaken in the area.

LDF march to Collectorate

The Left Democratic Federation (LDF) will take out a Collectorate march on December 30 demanding the resignation of P.K. Kunhalikutty, Industries Minister. The march will begin from NGO Quarters Junction, Kakkanad at 10 a.m. The decision was taken at a meeting of the front's district committee. K.J. Jacob, Sunny Mannathoorkaran, Kuruvila Mathews and E.K. Hassankutty were among those who spoke.

KCYM seeks inquiry

Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) has demanded an inquiry into the allegation that the Kerala State Backward Communities Development Corporation unduly released huge sums to the SNDP Yogam and Bharat Sevak Samaj. The probe should be handed over to either the CBI or the Crime Branch, said a statement issued by the association general secretary, Sherry J Thomas.

SC/ST panel office-bearers

The following were elected office-bearers of the SC-ST Right Protection Council: E.A. Vikraman (chairman), Mallika (convener), K.K. Kujnappan (treasurer).

SFI demand

The Cochin University of Science and Technology unit of the Students Federation of India (SFI) demanded the ouster of the Chandrasekhara Pillai, Dean of the School of Legal Studies, from the post. The SFI alleged that Mr. Pillai was scuttling moves to convert the School of Legal Studies into study centre of international standards. The organisation has also decided to submit a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of the university in this regard.

Move to impose fee on walkway opposed

BJP warning

The BJP mandalam president, Pudukkalavattam Balachandran, has urged the authorities not to impose fee for using the walkway on Marine Drive. While fee could be charged from film producers, it would be unjustified to impose fee on people who spend leisure time, he said in a statement. He warned of agitation against any move to impose a fee.

Hindi Week

Competitions in Hindi will be held under the auspices of Cochin Town Official Language Implementation Committee at the office of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Kochi. The employees from various Central Government organisations situated in Kochi will participate in the week-long programme. The programme will conclude on December 21, according to a press release.
