Guntur
By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, DEC. 13. All Government employees in Guntur district will now wear khadi to offices, once a week from Saturday. The District Collector, G. Jayalakshmi, on Monday called upon the employees to wear khadi dresses at least for a day as per the State Government directive to encourage weavers. Inaugurating an APCO counter in the District Collector's office complex here, she said this small gesture could save the lives of many weavers by providing them employment.
Discount too
After inspecting the stock at the APCO counter, she advised the society employees to stock readymade dresses and dress material so that employees would have a wider choice. A 25 per cent discount would be given to the employees at the counter in the Collectorate, the APCO Commercial Officer, C. Balabramam, announced. The APCO had sold Rs.1.46 crores so far through 15 centres and four extension counters against a sales target of Rs.1.69 crores in Guntur. This was primarily due to good patronage by women and employees, he added. It proposed to open four more extension counters in Guntur. The Government employees could avail of a scheme to pay in five monthly instalments, he said.
