SHIMOGA, DEC. 14. The Shimoga Police have arrested seven persons in connection with a dacoity case reported from Shikaripur taluk last month. The police have recovered nearly 60 per cent of Rs. 10.68 lakhs reportedly stolen in the incident. The Superintendent of Police, Arun Chakravarthy, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the arrested persons were Satyakeerthi (25), Rafiq (19), Manjunath (21), Ganesh (24) and Armugam (19) all from Holehonnur near here and Khaleel of Shiralkoppa and Rajasekharaiah. He said while Khaleel and Rajasekharaih were the masterminds, the others carried out the plan. Two motorcycles used by the gang to commit the crime were also seized, he added. Mr. Chakravarthy said the manager of the Arokya Milk Dairy, Nandagaon, was returning to Shimoga in a vehicle on November 13 when the gang accosted him around midnight near Shiralkoppa in Shikaripur taluk. The gang attacked him with weapons causing injuries to him and also damaged the vehicle. He said the gang threw chilli powder on dairy manager and the driver M.R. Mujawar and decamped with the suitcase containing the cash. Mr. Chakravarthy said a special squad arrested the seven members of the gang. He said the gang had spent about Rs. 4 lakhs of the booty.
