ALAPPUZHA, DEC. 14. The Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary, P.K. Narayana Panicker, and the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, have said that they will jointly oppose any move by the State Government for special recruitment of candidates from minority communities to government service. Addressing mediapersons at the residence of Mr. Natesan at Kanichukulangara here today, Mr. Panicker said ``nobody should think that we will sit idle if the Government tries to implement special recruitment for candidates from minority communities.'' The Constitution envisages special recruitment for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and not for minorities, he said.
Invitation
Mr. Panicker, along with the NSS public relations officer, M. Manoharan, arrived at Kanichukulangara this afternoon to officially invite Mr. Natesan to the `Navathi' celebrations of the NSS and the Mannam Jayanthi celebrations being held on January 2. Mr. Natesan will deliver the keynote address at the function. Mr. Natesan and Mr. Panicker said moves for the unity of the NSS and the SNDP had already begun. The areas of cooperation will be worked out soon. They said both the communities had benefited whenever they worked together. The NSS under Mannath Padmanabhan had organised agitations to support the demand of backward communities for entry into temples in the state, Mr. Panicker said. He said some people had sabotaged efforts for the unity of the two organisations in the past. They said they would not allow anyone to subvert the present efforts.
Unity of all castes
Mr. Natesan said there was not much difference between the two communities as both worshipped the same Gods and followed similar customs. Areas where differences of opinion exist will be discussed and solutions found. The SNDP's vision is to unite all castes in the Hindu community, from Scheduled Tribes to Brahmins, he said. As Ezhavas and Nairs are the major castes in the Hindu community, efforts for unity should begin from them, he said. Mr. Panicker said the Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty, should have resigned in the face of serious allegations raised against him. He pointed out that such serious allegations were rarely raised against Ministers in the past. Mr. Panicker said minority status should not be decided on all-India basis. It should be decided State-wise. Minority communalism has a double effect. The NSS and the SNDP have never tried to incite communalism, Mr. Panicker said.
