CHENNAI, DEC. 14. The Italy-based tractor and industrial diesel engine manufacturer, Same Deutz-Fahr group, plans to invest Rs. 60 crores in the next three years to expand its India operations. Kamal Bali, Managing Director, Same Deutz-Fahr India, said with the proposed investment, its capacity will go up to 15,000 from 10,000 tractors and to 50,000 diesel engines from 15,000 engines. The group's wholly owned subsidiary, Same Deutz-Fahr India, has its manufacturing facility at Ranipet in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Bali told presspersons that the company would introduce four new tractors 35 hp, 40 hp, 45 hp and 55 hp next year and also get into the manufacture of higher horsepower diesel engines. At present, it sells four tractor models and two versions of engines in the domestic market. The parent group will also increase its buyback of components from India. Massimo Bordi, Chief Executive Officer, Fahr group, said the group would use the India operations to tap emerging and growing markets in the Middle East and other parts of Asia. The group has so far invested Rs. 120 crores in its India operations. The company hoped to end 2004 with sales of 3,000 tractors and expected a turnover of Rs. 100 crores against Rs. 40 crores in 2003.
