PONDICHERRY, DEC. 14. The Pondicherry police have registered a case against three persons who allegedly assaulted Kumaresan (32) of Embalam near here yesterday. The victim succumbed to injuries in the Government Hospital. According to the police, Kumaresan who was allegedly involved in a number of theft cases had torched the house of a worker of an arrack shop at Embalam on Sunday night after having a wordy duel with him. Kumaresan reportedly demanded arrack without paying giving money. Kumaresan escaped after attempting to attack the workers. He allegedly burnt down the house of one of the workers on Sunday night. The owner of the house and also a group of villagers filed a complaint against Kumaresan. When the culprit was seen moving near the arrack shop yesterday, a section allegedly beat him.
