NEW DELHI, DEC. 14. Two persons have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police for allegedly selling forged fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) issued by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) under MIG (Rohini) scheme in 1981. According to the police, the Anti-Auto Theft Squad of the South-West Delhi police received a tip-off about a person selling forged FDRs, purportedly issued by the DDA under MIG (Rohini) in 1981. Constable Gajender was deployed as decoy and he struck a deal with the suspect for the forged FDR. A trap was laid near a service station in Dwarka on Sunday. Around 11-15 a.m., the suspect, identified as Babu Lala, a Mongolpuri resident, appeared on the scene and was arrested when he showed the forged FDR. The FDR was issued in the name of Sukha Singh, a resident of Panipat. At Babu's instance, his associate, Maharaj Singh, also a Mongolpuri resident, was arrested. In all, the police recovered about half-a-dozen forged FDRs from the accused. The police said Babu, whop dropped out of school before completing his primary education, worked as a painter till 2001. He was unemployed after that and had come under heavy debts following the marriage of his eldest daughter three years ago. Around the same time, he met Maharaj, who claimed to be a property dealer. Maharaj came to know of Babu Lal's plight and suggested that they could earn quick money if they sold forged FDRs issued by the DDA. As per plan, they prepared the format for the fake FDR, which looked almost like the original, and printed them. They used to sell the FDRs anywhere between Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 75,000. So far, they have been able to sell about half-a-dozen fake FDRs.
