`No fertiliser crisis'

LUCKNOW, DEC 14 . The Uttar Pradesh government today refuted Opposition parties' allegation of non-supply of fertilisers in several districts of the state resulting in delay in Rabi crop sowing and claimed there was adequate stock in all districts.

State Principal Secretary (agriculture) J B Pattnaik here said that already 8.30 lakh metric tonne of fertilisers had been supplied in the state which was adequate for the current season.

He, however, admitted that there was some delay in supply of fertilisers at the initial stages in some districts, particularly in the eastern parts of the state, but now everything has been sorted out. Due to good climate the state was also witnessing 10 per cent more produce during the coming Rabi season, leading to increased demand for fertilisers in the state, he added.

``During the last 20 days, about 1.50 lakh tonne of fertilisers have been imported,'' he told UNI today adding that in 55 districts the government had supplied 90 per cent of the quota while in the rest, it was around 75 per cent.

He said around 3,000 raids had been conducted in the state against the hoarders.

On the response of the central government on the fertilizer crisis in the state, he said the Centre had already supplied 90 per cent of its quota. -- UNI
