THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 14. The Kerala State Energy Conservation Awards 2004 were given away by Principal Secretary (Power) Lizzie Jacob, at a function organised by the Energy Management Centre here today. Hindustan Newsprint Limited, Kottayam, won the award in the category of large-scale enterprises. N.P. Prabhu, managing director, Hindustan Newsprint, received the award. Cochin Shipyard won the commendation certificate in this category. Hindustan Latex Ltd, Akkulam, got the commendation certificate in the category of medium-scale enterprises. M. Ayyappan, MD, Hindustan Latex, received the commendation certificate. Paul V. John of Sophisticated Test and Instrumentation Centre, Kochi; and K.C. Thomas, Thomson Tiles, Thrissur, received the commendation certificates in the category of small-scale enterprises. KENCOS, Kathirur, Thalassery won the award in the category of non-profit organisations. Vimala Public School, Thodupuzha, won commendation certificate along with Pathanapuram Grama Panchayat for implementing a waste treatment plant. In the newly added category for research and innovations, P.S. Chandramohanan Nair, professor, College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapruam, won the award by introducing a simple, reliable and low-cost novel technique of tamper proof energy metering system. The commendation certificate went to Sathyajith Mathew of Kerala Agricultural University, Thavanoor, for developing wind energy research analysis software. U. Najeema, teacher, Agricultural University High School, Thrissur, shared the commendation certificate in the individual category with S. Ratnakumar of Kollam.
