Boat owners' stir from today

KOCHI, DEC.14. The fisheries sector in the State will go on an indefinite strike from tomorrow demanding minimum price for fish varieties and subsidy on fuel.

The strike call was given by Matsya Mekhala Samyukta Samity, joint action council of boat owners and various trade unions in the fisheries sector.

Fishing operations in Kochi, Munambam, Beypore, Azheekkal and Kollam harbours will come to a standstill from tomorrow. Boat operators and fish vendors from the neighbouring States have agreed to cooperate with the strike call given by the Samity, leaders said.
